Greenvale Tennis Club volunteer Liz Tektonopoulos has been awarded the volunteer achievement award at the 2021 Victorian Tennis Awards.

The awards, run by Tennis Victoria, recognise Victoria’s on and off court successes in tennis.

Ms Tektonopoulos said she felt “very humbled” receiving the award, and that she was not expecting it.

“I think I was so surprised when my name was announced… as the winner that I fumbled through my acceptance,” she said.

“I couldn’t believe I’d won!

“After seeing the posts on our social media pages I’ve had many congratulations from the tennis community who I’ve bumped into around the club.

“It’s been a fantastic experience and I’m so appreciative.”

Ms Tektonopoulos said one of the highlights of working with Greenvale was securing a grant from Hume council for club uniforms.

“We’ve received our first shipment during lockdown so we’ll be rolling them out to the tennis community this month,” she said.

“It’ll be so exciting seeing the kids and adults wearing our very own club uniform!

“I’m so proud to be part of the Greenvale Tennis Club!”

Ms Tektonopoulos said she has been able to learn a lot from her time with the club.

“I really love being a part of our tennis club, learning the history from our long-standing president, and combining that with some modern initiatives,” she said.
