Two men from Melbourne’s northern suburbs have been charged after allegedly being found in possession of firearms following an AFL match at the MCG on Thursday night.
Police were called to the stadium about 8.30pm on April 3 after security reported two men refusing to leave the venue.
Officers arrested the pair and, during a search, allegedly found each in possession of a firearm.
A 27-year-old Broadmeadows man has been charged with multiple offences, including possessing a loaded firearm, and failing to appear on bail.
A 21-year-old Roxburgh Park man, classified as a prohibited person, has been charged with firearm possession and committing an indictable offence on bail.
Both men have been remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates Court on April 4.
Detectives from Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit are leading the inquiry, while Counter Terrorism Command has assessed the incident and will not be involved further.
Police have assured the public there is no ongoing threat to safety.
