Two charged after alleged Westmeadows carjacking

Police have charged two youths following an alleged carjacking in Westmeadows yesterday morning.

Investigators have been told three youths allegedly booked a rideshare vehicle from Tullamarine to an address in Westmeadows about 12.45am on Thursday.

The ride was allegedly cancelled mid trip by one of the group.

Police said the driver pulled over in Ripplebrook Drive to let the occupants out and was allegedly assaulted by two of the youths.

He was allegedly forced from the vehicle and chased off by one of the group who then allegedly returned to the car and drove it away.

The police Air Wing was notified when the vehicle was spotted by police, and followed the vehicle to a shopping complex in Maribyrnong.

Two boys, a 16-year-old from Gladstone Park and a 15-year-old from Airport West, were arrested at the scene.

The Gladstone Park boy has been charged with aggravated carjacking, intentionally causing injury, theft of a motor vehicle and making threats to kill.

He was bailed to appear before a children’s court at a later date.

The Airport West boy has been charged with aggravated carjacking, intentionally causing injury, theft of a motor vehicle, making threats to kill and reckless conduct endangering serious injury.

He was remanded to appear before a children’s court at a later date.

Police said the third occupant is yet to be identified but is believed to have left the vehicle before the car arrived in Maribyrnong.
