TV role a dream come true

This was one of Star Weekly’s top stories of 2021. Here’s your chance to read it if you missed it, or revisit it before another year of jam-packed news content.

Mill Park comedian James Liotta will be featured on the next season of 7Mate’s Fat Pizza: Back in Business.

Fat Pizza is an Australian comedy series created by Paul Fenech, which initially aired on SBS for its first five seasons between 2000 and 2007, before moving to 7mate for its sixth season in 2019.

Liotta said the “very exciting” opportunity to continue his role as main character Pauly’s cousin Lino, after being featured in a few scenes during season six, is a long-time dream come true.

“I grew up always wanting to be in this profession,” Liotta said.

“I’ve never had a role that I could be recognised from until now.”

Liotta said the sitcom-esque comedy, centred on the operation of a local pizza shop, is something people from all walks of life can enjoy.

“It’s an absurd comedy, with really over the top characters and crazy scenarios,” he said.

“It’s just a crazy show centred around a pizza shop.

“The show embraces an ethnic culture.

“It’s something accessible by everybody – you can be from anywhere in the world, be from any background… and it can be enjoyed for what it is.”

Fat Pizza: Back in Business will begin airing on 7Mate after the Olympics.
