Job-seekers are set to reap the benefits of a major jobs boost, with the federal government committing $1 million to keep vital employment hubs thriving in Melbourne’s outer suburbs, if re-elected.
The Broadmeadows- based Thrive Employment Hub, operated by the Brotherhood of St Laurence, is changing lives by helping locals find meaningful work close to home.
Thanks to the fresh funding pledge, this personalised support will continue– connecting job seekers with businesses and breaking down the barriers to employment.
Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Murray Watt said many Australians still face hurdles on their path to paid work.
“It could be literacy, confidence, transport, or just needing a hand getting started– these hubs provide that essential, localised support that changes lives,” Mr Watt said.
The hubs offer more than job placements– they also refer people to education, training and community services, and provide crucial support even after someone starts a new role.
Importantly, they’re open to all– whether it’s young people seeking a first career, or those looking to re-enter the workforce
The initiative was first launched by the Victorian Government as a pilot and has since been hailed as a leading example of place-based employment services, even earning praise in a recent Workforce Australia inquiry.
