Three cars allegedly speeding in Campbellfield

Police intercepted three cars allegedly speeding in Campbellfield last night.

Police said Fawkner Highway Patrol officers observed a vehicle travelling south on the Hume Highway about 10pm on Wednesday at an alleged speed of 178km/h in an 80km/h zone.

The officers intercepted the white Ford Falcon and found the driver was an 18-year-old Campbellfield man with a probationary licence, police said in a statement.

Police said he will be charged on summons with conduct endangering serious injury, driving at speed dangerous, and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/hr.

His car was impounded for 30 days.

Police said about an hour later, officers detected two white Volkswagen hatchbacks allegedly racing each other on the Hume Highway.

The vehicles were allegedly travelling at 153km/h in a 70km/h zone, police said.

Officers intercepted the vehicles, and said that both drivers, including a 19-year-old Lalor man, held probationary licences.

Police said both are expected to be charged on summons with driving at a speed dangerous, engaging in a race, exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/hr and failing to display ‘P’ plates.

Both vehicles were impounded for 30 days.
