Thomastown home to one of Australia’s best cheeses

It’s official – Thomastown produces one of Australia’s best cheeses.

That’s Amore Cheese had its Diavoletti delicacy crowned champion flavoured cheese at the recent Australian Grand Dairy awards.

The cheese was one of three shortlisted for the award, and it is the second time this particular cheese has been given a gong.

The awards are the dairy industry’s most prestigious and were established to recognise excellence and quality in production.

To enter the awards, producers must have won a gold medal at state level competitions.

That’s Amore Cheese owner Giorgio Linguanti said the Diavoletti was a “very unique and special product”.

He said the name translated to ‘little devils’, adding that it was a small, provolina-shaped smoked cheese that includes a single chilli stuffed into the centre of a pitted olive.

“We are over the moon that our dedication in producing the very best quality product has been recognised again,” he said.

Mr Linguanti started That’s Amore Cheese in 2008 – four years after arriving in Melbourne – and he opened his Thomastown factory just last year.
