Third Lunar arrest linked to organised crime

Detectives from taskforce Lunar have arrested a third person following a number of incidents including an aggravated home invasion in Craigieburn and a burglary in Broadmeadows earlier this year.

A 33-year-old Glenroy man was arrested at an address in Glenroy and interviewed by police on Thursday, September 4 and will be charged with two counts of aggravated home invasion with an offensive weapon, two counts of theft, burglary and using a tracking device.

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ court on Thursday, September 4.

The arrest comes after police also arrested a 32-year-old Kalkallo man and a 36-year-old Keillor Downs man at two residential properties in Kalkallo and Keilor Downs on Thursday, August 28.

The Kalkallo man was charged with aggravated home invasion, burglary, theft and possess drug of dependence and the Keilor Downs man was charged with possess a drug of dependence.

The three arrests are part of an investigation into an organised crime syndicate involved in a range of offences relating to extortion and money laundering connected to the illicit tobacco trade.

On Tuesday, July 15, police seized a number of devices as part of the investigation and uncovered evidence of two alleged incidents on Tuesday, June 24 including an aggravated home invasion in Craigieburn and a burglary at a business premises in Broadmeadows.

The investigation into these incidents and the organised crime syndicate remains ongoing.
