Update: Exposure sites in Craigieburn and Broadmeadows have been linked to a Hume family who travelled to Victoria from Sydney.
The family returned from Sydney late last week. Two members of the family returned positive COVID-19 tests yesterday morning, with a third member of the family testing positive today, the health department said.
The three confirmed cases are an adult male, his partner, and a child.
Last night, the department listed Coles at Craigieburn Central as a tier one site on Saturday, July 10 between 5.28pm and 6.38pm.
Craigieburn Central Shopping Centre has been listed as a tier three site during the same time period.
Metro Petroleum at Broadmeadows has been listed as a tier two site on Sunday, July 11 between 1.19pm and 2.04pm.
COVID response commander Jeroen Weimar said the health department would not pursue legal recourse for the family, who broke quarantine requirements to attend the sites.
“We’re not going to pursue any… action,” Mr Weimar said.
“Throwing a book at people… isn’t going to work.
“We realise it’s a difficult situation to be put in to.”
Mr Weimar said the most important thing was to get accurate information about movements from people who are positive for COVID-19.
Earlier: A third member of a Hume family who travelled from Sydney to Melbourne has tested positive for coronavirus.
The new case has been isolating throughout their infectious period, the health department said.
Coles at Craigieburn Central was identified as a tier one exposure site late last night.
Anyone who visited Coles Craigieburn Central on Saturday, July 10 between 5.28pm and 6.38pm must immediately get tested and quarantine for 14 days.
The designation came as two other exposure sites were listed: the Craigieburn Central Shopping Centre and Metro Petroleum in Broadmeadows.
Metro Petroleum is a tier two site, meaning anyone who visited on Sunday, July 11 between 1.19pm and 2.04pm must get tested urgently and isolate until they receive a negative result.
Craigieburn Central is a tier three site, meaning anyone who visited on Saturday, July 10 between 5.28pm and 6.38pm must monitor for symptoms and get tested.
In a statement, Craigieburn Central said the Coles store was deep cleaned on Monday night and was trading as normal today.
“As the health and safety of everyone in the centre is our highest priority, we’re continuing to follow [Department of Health] advice and guidelines,” the statement said.
