Teenager charged with alleged Craigieburn carjacking

A teenage boy has been charged with carjacking and intentionally causing harm after allegedly stealing a vehicle and crashing into a second stolen car.

The alleged incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4 when a woman was dragged from her Mercedes after her car was rear ended by a Mitsubishi on Craigieburn Road, Craigieburn about 9.15am.

The 49-year-old woman was attempting to exchange details before attempting to lock her door after seeing a man running towards the car.

She was allegedly thrown out of the car, suffering lacerations to her arms and legs.

Authorities report that the man took the Mercedes and sped off, driving erratically before crossing a medium strip onto the other side of the road.

The Mercedes then collided with the Mitsubishi before the occupants of both vehicles fled the scene on foot.

The occupants of both vehicles were chased down and arrested at a train station carpark off the Hume highway by police.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with aggravated carjacking, intentionally cause injury, driving in a dangerous manner and unlicensed driving.

He will appear in a children’s court at a later date.

A16-year-old girl and 26-year-old man occupying the Mitsubishi were released awaiting further inquiry.

The Mitsubishi has since been discovered to have been stolen overnight between Sunday to Monday from Merrigum.
