Grab your friends, family, and walking shoes to experience Thomastown in a fun new light at Walking Thomastown, a magical night-time walk through one of the City of Whittlesea’s oldest suburbs.
On Saturday, August 30, from 6pm to 9pm, step into a glowing world of wonder as neon lights, art installations and outdoor projections transform familiar streets and parklands into an immersive celebration of culture, creativity and community.
Participants will walk from Main Street Recreation Reserve, along Edgars Creek, through Ziebell’s Farmhouse Museum, and into the heart of the historic Westgarthtown pioneer precinct.
The free, family-friendly event will be packed with large-scale light art, live music, culture and plenty of photo-worthy moments along the way.
Whittlesea mayor Martin Taylor encouraged locals to meet their neighbours, connect with their community and celebrate the end of winter with a fun and refreshing night outdoors.
“Walking Thomastown is a fantastic way to see our community in a new light. It’s a vibrant celebration of local stories, creativity and connection that brings people together,” he said,
“This event turns familiar streets into something truly magical, with lights, music, history and culture around every corner. It’s been wonderful to see it grow each year, and I’m excited for the community to experience everything this year’s incredible program has to offer.”
This year’s program includes neon lighting, including the return of the Neon Dog Park, projection art from emerging and First Peoples artists, large-scale, colourful light installations along the walking trail, live performances, food vans, fire-twirlers, stilt-walkers and face-painters.
Bring a torch and wear comfortable shoes – the walk is an easy, flat 1.6km route suitable for all ages, beginning at Main Street Recreation Reserve,
