Support for budding scientists

A new partnership between Broadmeadows-based CSL Behring and La Trobe University’s In2Science program will help educate the next generation of scientists.

CSL Behring has signed a four-year partnership with the In2science program to deliver science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education programs in Hume schools.

The partnership will enable In2Science to deliver an in-school mentoring program to more than 150 students in years 7-10.

The In2Science program places university students as peer mentors in Victorian secondary schools to support groups of students traditionally underrepresented in STEM, including students from low socio-economic backgrounds, girls, students from regional and rural areas, and Indigenous students.

CSL Behring Broadmeadows senior vice president and general manager Tricia Stewart said the Broadmeadows team was keen to support STEM engagement.

“CSL Behring Broadmeadows has long supported the local Hume community through our community grants program,” she said.

“This new partnership between CSL Behring Broadmeadows and In2science will connect our employees with the community where we work. To complement the work of teachers and mentors in the program, our highly skilled STEM employees are excited to be heading into the classroom to encourage students to consider the diverse career opportunities available in the field of science.”

In2Science program director Alison Every said having partners like CSL Behring allows the program to recruit more student mentors and provide better outcomes.

“We are really excited to harness the knowledge and experience of CSL Behring’s people to enhance the In2Science program for students in the Broadmeadows area,” she said.
