Hume and Whittlesea residents have awoken this morning to multiple incidents of fallen trees and building damage due to heavy storms overnight and this morning.

Whittlesea and Broadmeadows state emergency service (SES) units have been working through the night, responding to dozens of calls.

“There have been requests for trees down over roads, so please take care on your morning commute,” Whittlesea’s SES Facebook page read.

The Victorian department of transport are urging residents to avoid travel if they can, but if they do need to drive to “please slow down and use extreme care”.

There are multiple delays to public transport, including buses replacing trains on the Craigieburn line between North Melbourne and Broadmeadows.

Roads have been impacted by power outages with many traffic lights out. “Drive with care through all intersections,” the department of transport said.

There is also the potential for fallen power lines.
