Spoonville has made its way to Craigieburn.
The worldwide craze which has seen children decorate spoons and put them out together in a public place has popped up in several locations, including in Hume and Whittlesea.
Bianca Bettanin was behind the idea to start Spoonville near the Waterside Cafe on North Shore Drive, Craigieburn, which isn’t too far from her house.
“It started online with a few blogging mums who did it in their suburb,” she said.
“The first isolation there was the teddy bear hunt and the drawing of rainbows with chalk to keep the kids happy in isolation.
“So many families walk around the lake there, so I thought I would create one a [Spoonville] in Craigieburn.”
Despite negative feedback when she initially posted the idea to Facebook, Ms Bettanin and her children Siena and Frankie, her sister Melissa Gavalakis and her daughters Mia and Evie decided to make a Spoonville.
Ms Bettanin said the kids loved making the spoons and have enjoyed following the progress to see whether there are any other spoons added.
She said it was a good way to share community spirit in a non-contact way.
There are now more than 100 spoons at that location, while Ms Bettanin said she had seen people do it in their yards and on nature strips.
“My kids loved the process,” she said. “It gave them an idea to fill some time.
“They made their own characters. When I did post a picture on social media, I was blown away with the tags and comments.
“My sister showed me a photo one night showing there were more spoons there and I showed my girls and they were excited.”
