A serious head-on crash in Somerton has left a Greenvale grandmother fighting for life and a teenage driver in hospital, as police piece together what went wrong on Cooper Street.
Emergency services rushed to the scene Monday at 11.30am following reports of a black Lexus sedan veering onto the wrong side of the road.
It’s understood the Lexus, being driven west, an eastbound red Hyundai collided before the Lexus crashed into a Mitsubishi truck.
The driver of the Hyundair, a 73-year-old Greenvale woman was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Lexus driver, a 19-year-old man from Ivanhoe, was also hospitalised but is in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
The truck drive, a 53-year-old Roxburgh Park man, escaped injury.
Police are still working to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
Cooper Street was partially closed as police examined the scene and cleared debris.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.
