Six arrested in Firearm Prohibition Order searches across Whittlesea

A week-long police operation targeting Firearm Prohibition Order breaches in Melbourne’s north led to the arrest of six individuals from Whittlesea.

Local police, supported by the VIPER Task force, conducted 30 FPO searches across northern suburbs, including Epping, Mernda, Lalor and Mill Park. The operation aimed to ensure compliance with FPO conditions, which prohibit individuals from possessing firearms or related items.

Among those arrested was a 28-year-old Mernda man charged with an outstanding warrant and possessing a prohibited weapon without exemption.

He was bailed to appear at the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on April 23

A 32-year-old Lalor man was arrested on a bench warrant for failing to appear at court.

He was bailed to appear at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on April 23.

A 32-year-old Lalor man was arrested on a bench warrant for failing to appear at court. He was bailed to appear at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on May 16.

A 29-year-old Mill Park woman will be charged on summons for possessing a drug of dependence, while a 32-year-old Greensborough man faces charges on summons for possessing a drug of dependence and a prescribed drug without prescription

Two additional men from Whittlesea, a 72-year-old from Greensborough and a 30-year-old from Epping , will be interviewed at a later date for failing to provide a new address as required under their FPO conditions.

FPO’s, which remain in effect for 10 years for adults and five years for children, prohibit individuals from acquiring, possessing, carrying or using firearms or related items.

The consequences for breaching FPO conditions are severe, with offenders facing up to 10 years in prison.
