A Doreen reident has sparked some much needed joy during lockdown, organising scavenger hunts for the children in the community.
Steph Chant started organising local scavenger hunts at the beginning of lockdown to give the children in the area something to look forward to and something to smile about.
“It all stemmed from last Halloween, we did a really small scavenger hunt within our own little neighbourhood just within our own streets and the neighbours loved it and so did we,” Ms Chant said.
“Then as soon as lockdown hit it was just a way of giving the children some fun, something different on their walks and a little bit of joy when there wasn’t much around.”
Ms Chant received overwhelming positive feedback from locals, and organised more hunts with Where’s Wally and Mario themes.
“I invited some children if they wanted to put their hands up to do a little drawing of a character from Mario, and then we put them in picture frames and they became the scavenger hunt stations, they were displayed all around Doreen,” she said.
Due to the increasing popularity of the hunts, Ms Chant decided to set up Facebook and Instagram pages under the name D.A.S.H (Doreen’s Awesome Scavenger Hunts), which she has been using to update the community on the upcoming Halloween hunt.
Ms Chant has been asking for donations of lollies and decorations and has received a huge response.
‘It’s just been awesome, people have just been dropping off bags and bags of lollies at our house, so everyone’s really jumping on board which is ace,” she said.
The upcoming Halloween Doreen scavenger hunt will take place on October 31, 3pm-9pm and will start at the top of Hilltop Park.
