Runaway groom arrested in Campbellfield

Murat Shomshe

Runaway groom Murat Shomshe, who skipped out on his new bride and the law, has been arrested.

Shomshe, 33, who goes by the name I-am Houdini on Facebook, was controversially released from prison on bail so he could attend his July 25 wedding.

But he did a runner on his bride, Belinda Dulevski, while she was in the shower last Monday.

He was missing for more than a week, before being arrested on Tuesday morning.

Police said Shomshe was arrested at 10am in Campbellfield.

It was revealed on Monday that police had checked on Shomshe at his home just hours before he fled on July 27.

He was released on bail the day before his wedding, after telling County Court judge Richard Maidment that he would lose the $6000 deposit he had paid for the event.

Shomshe is due to face court today.
