Roxburgh Park student Dani Khano has tried to make the most of his studies since arriving in Australia.
The refugee arrived in Australia from Iraq 18 months ago and set about learning English at Broadmeadows’ Kangan Institute.
During his time at Kangan, Mr Khano completed certificate III and IV in spoken and written English.
This year, he enrolled in a course to complete his VCE at RMIT, in the hope of one day completing a nursing degree.
Last week, Mr Khano, 19, was named as Kangan Institute’s inspirational student of the year.
Mr Khano said he always tried to go above and beyond during his studies.
“I really worked hard in my studies and went further and did more,” he said.
“I volunteered in my English class to help the teacher to help some students who couldn’t speak English at all.”
Mr Khano was one of 10 students recognised at the awards, with Doreen’s Tiffany Greenhaigh and Coolaroo’s Bradley Holland-Smith also receiving awards.
