A 25-year-old Roxburgh Park man has been charged over an alleged attempt to import 300 kilograms of liquid MDMA hidden inside French wine bottles.

Police said the man, and a 21-year-old Cranbourne man, were arrested on Saturday, October 8.

They have been charged with the attempted possession of a commercial quantity of an unlawfully imported border controlled drug, contrary to section 307.5 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).

The cargo was intercepted last month by Australian Border Force authorities.

Forensic testing confirmed the presence of liquid MDMA, worth tens of millions of dollars, in 270 of the bottles labelled as 2016 Bordeaux and sent from France, police said,

After removing the drugs, authorities tracked the consignment’s delivery to a storage facility on Wednesday, October 5 where the Cranbourne man was allegedly identified checking the package.
