Road rage victim spat on, assaulted

Police are appealing for information following a road rage incident in Mernda last week, in which the victim was spat upon and assaulted.

Investigators have been told a 53-year-old woman, who was driving a white Honda CRV, was tailgated by a white Toyota HiLux ute along Plenty Road between Mernda and Mill Park about 2.30pm on June 14.

Police said the driver of the ute exited the vehicle a number of times, when he stopped at various intersections, and assaulted the woman.

He allegedly grabbed her mobile phone and threw it away, broke her car’s side mirror and spat on her.

Police have been told the man also got into the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle while she was retrieving her mobile phone and reversed it a short distance along Plenty Road. The car was then returned to the victim.

It is believed a female passenger, who was inside the ute, also yelled abuse at the victim.

Investigators are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
