Road no more

Olivers Road in Craigieburn will be no more after a long-running process to discontinue part of the road has officially been completed.

Hume council voted to finalise the closure of the road during its 13 October council meeting.

The decision marks the final step in a process which began more than six years ago, when council first moved to discontinue part of the unconstructed road in July 2018.

Following public notification in 2019, no submissions were received which allowed the project to proceed without objection.

Cr Carly Moore said council was satisfied with the decision to discontinue the road.

“Council is satisfied that the road is no longer reasonably required and that we’ve done all the thighs that are necessary and in accordance with the legal advice,” Cr Moore said.

Under the precinct plan, the former road area will be repurposed for community and environmental use, including .66 hectares of active open space, .15 hectares designated for biodiversity protection and stormwater management, and a small .03 hectare parcel potentially set aside for future residential development.

With the discontinuance now complete, the land can be vested for its intended uses, advancing council’s plans for sustainable growth and improved community infrastructure in Craigieburn’s expanding northern corridor.
