Restaurant fire in Campbellfield

As suspicious fire broke out at a Campbellfield restaurant on Wednesday morning.

Fire Rescue Victoria responded to reports of a building fire on the Hume Highway about 4.30am.

On arrival firefighters found a 30 x 20 metre brick building well alight, with smoke and flames issuing from the roof the structure.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes of crews arriving on the scene.

The restaurant has been extensively damaged, but firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading to an adjoining car wash.

The fire has been deemed as suspicious and will be investigated by police.

Firefighters will remain on scene into the morning hours fully extinguishing the fire.

Traffic in the south bound lanes of the Hume Highway near the corner of Berwick Road, Campbellfield will be affected for some time due to emergency services in the area.
