Residents invited to name future community centre in Whittlesea

Whittlesea residents are invited to help name council’s future community centre to be located in the Olivine estate in Donnybrook.

The centre will include a kindergarten, maternal and child health services, a pop-up library, and flexible spaces for community programs.

Locals are encouraged to consider the area’s heritage and what they love most about Donnybrook when coming up with names.

Council will compile a shortlist of submitted names for the community to later vote on.

City of Whittlesea Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said community involvement in the naming process allowed locals to connect with the area and its heritage.

“Community centres play a crucial part in fostering strong local connections and providing easy access to early child education and health services,” Ms Wilson said.

“It’s only fitting that a facility built for the community, is named by the community.”

The community centre is currently in the design stage and construction is expected to begin late next year, with the facility set to be up-and-running in 2025.

Submissions close Sunday, May 8 2022.
