More than 120 artists have signed up for the annual Whittlesea art exhibition.

The exhibition showcases Whittlesea’s artistic community and includes paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures, photographs, mosaics and ceramics.

Mayor Kris Pavlidis said this year’s exhibition theme – new beginnings – had encouraged many artists to participate in the exhibition for the first time.

“For others, they have been participating since the exhibition first started 12 years ago,” she said. “Every artist’s story is unique and interesting.

“We can learn a lot about our city and our residents by looking at these
artworks.”

Cr Pavlidis said the artists came from a variety of cultural backgrounds including indigenous, African, Iraqi, Italian, German, Scottish, Indian, Greek, Turkish, Irish, Hungarian, Thai and French.

The exhibition is open until Tuesday, December 19 at the Great Hall, Whittlesea council offices, Ferres Boulevard, South Morang.
