Ready to unite against violence

The Romsey Neighbourhood House is taking a stand on violence against women.

The house will host a Sisters U Night evening, and attempt to form a human chain from Lancefield to Romsey, as part of the 16 Days of Activism, an international campaign to challenge violence against women.

Home community member Kathryn Chai said women will be treated to a night of pampering and will be provided with information services at Sisters U Night.

“It’s a night to support women,” she said.

“There’ll also be guest speakers. We’ll have some talking about empowering women, self-esteem. The event is also to talk about healthy relationships. We are going to have … counsellors on site.

“It’s such a heavy topic so that’s why we are promoting this as a wellbeing event.”

The entry fee from Sisters U Night will go to assisting women in emergency situations.

All locals are being invited to stand together in solidarity by forming a human chain between
Lancefield and Romsey.

“Community awareness is absolutely key to ensure our community knows what this – people standing together – looks like,” Ms Chai said.

She estimates that up to 4000 people are needed to form a chain between the two towns.

“We will start in the middle point between Romsey and Lancefield and spread out both ways,” Ms Chai said.

Sisters U Night is on November 29 at 96-100 Main Street, Romsey from 5.30pm. Cost $20 per person.

The human chain begins on the corner of Boundary and Melbourne Lancefield roads on December 8 at noon. Register for both events at bit.ly/2QjlTfl and bit.ly/372kmR0
