Broadmeadows student Ranim Yehya has been recognised at Kangan Institute’s Industry Excellence Awards.
Ms Yehya was among 80 students and apprentices honoured at the event, which highlights achievements in various industries.
She was named Inspirational Student of the Year.
Ms Yehya’s journey has been one of resilience. Born in Lebanon and impacted by the war, she lost her father and left school in year 9 to support her family.
After moving to Australia, she pursued a certificate III in horticulture at Kangan Institute.
“Irrigation, watching the garden grow–it’s my passion, my hobby, and my healing,” Ms Yehya said.
Encouraged by her teachers, Ms Yehya excelled in her studies and now aims for a career in horticulture.
“Don’t ever doubt yourself. Challenge yourself,” she said.
Kangan Institute chief executive Sally Curtain said Ms Yehya’s success highlights the impact of vocational education.
