Race bid to help Legends

Racehorse Aristia is vying for a spot in the All-Star Mile. But a position in the race means a little more to a local retired racehorse facility.

Aristia’s owner and breeder First Light Racing has partnered with Bulla’s Living Legends to raise money for the home for retired horses.

Aristia is hoping to secure one of 15 places in the All-Star Mile Race, featuring horses chosen by the public.

If Aristia wins the race, her owners will donate 10 per cent of their prize money to Living Legends.

Aristia is trained by Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra and is among 93 horses aiming for a position in the race.

Living Legends chief executive and veterinary director Andrew Clarke said it was a great opportunity to support a local organisation and potentially raise more than $186,000 if Aristia wins.

“We are excited to get behind Aristia and it’d be fantastic for First Light Racing at the Ellerton Zahra Stable to be represented in the big race,” he said.

First Light Racing has pledged $10,000 if Aristia competes in the race. If Aristia doesn’t make the final 15, her owners will donate $2500 to Living Legends.

Voting closes on Monday, February 17. The race is on Saturday, March 14 at Caulfield Racecourse.
