Police have arrested of a Roxburgh Park man for burglary and drug related offences thanks to the presence of mind of a 14-year-old boy.
The 29-year-old man will face the Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court today over charges including burglary and theft, trafficking and possessing a drug of dependence and going equipped to steal.
He was arrested in Strathmore on Friday after police were alerted to his whereabouts by the boy who answered a knock on the door at his parents’ home about 12.15pm.
The boy spoke to the man before he walked off, leaving a car he arrived in behind.
Leading Senior Constable Paul Turner said the boy became suspicious and called his mother, who altered police.
“The man was located nearby carrying a large bag,” he said.
“It’s alleged the bag contained money and jewellery stolen during a burglary at a nearby house.”
The car was allegedly stolen and carrying false number plates.
Detectives executed a search warrant at the man’s Roxburgh Park home on Friday and found a number of allegedly stolen items, including a New Zealand Police Medal.
He has been charged with seven counts of burglary and theft, trafficking and possessing a drug of dependence, theft of motor vehicle, theft from motor vehicle, handling stolen goods, possessing proceeds of crime and going equipped to steal.
He was remanded to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court today.
