Police are appealing for public assistance after a man sexually assaulted a woman in Bundoora last month.

Investigators have been told a woman was walking along a walking track between McLeans Road and Greenhills Road when a man engaged her in conversation about 4.10pm on Thursday, October 28.

Police said the man sexually assaulted the woman and then left towards Greenhills Road.

Detectives have released a face-fit image of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance, aged 27-30 years, about 170 centimetres tall, with blue eyes, a slim build, mousey blonde hair and acne.

Police said he was wearing a white T-shirt and shorts and was riding a multi-coloured bike with a white shopping bag tied to the handlebars.

Anyone who recognises the man or has information regarding the incident should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
