A Yan Yean road that “continuously” fails during the wet season will be reconstructed under a proposal being considered by Whittlesea council tonight.
The council will consider awarding a contract for the reconstruction of Arthurs Creek Road between Plenty and Recreation roads.
A report included in the agenda for tonight’s meeting – which begins at 6.30pm and will be livestreamed – says Arthurs Creek Road connects Plenty and Yan Yean roads.
While the road provides local access at the moment, it will have a “more strategic transport role in the future as a result of the unprecedented development occurring in the Donnybrook and surrounding areas”, the report stated.
The report stated that the road pavement is in “poor condition”, with sections of the road continuously failing during the
wet season as the road is in a flood basin.
The council is proposing to reconstruct the road, reinforce the road pavement and upgrade the open drain along the road.
The council will also consider a proposal to sell a parcel of land it owns on Johnson Road, Mernda, for housing.
A report included in the agenda proposes that council develop and subdivide the land at 17-19 Johnson Road into 35 lots, and then sell it.
It is proposed that 32 of the lots be sold on the open market, with the remaining three to be sold or leased to a suitable housing provider in line with the council’s Social Affordable Housing Policy.
The council bought the site from the state government for $1.8 million.
Also on tonight’s agenda is a recommendation that council apply for $7.5 million from the state government’s Growing Suburbs Fun for seven community projects.
The projects include an Aboriginal Gathering Place in Mernda, Patterson Drove Community Activity Centre in Donnybrook, and bushfire regeneration at Worchester Park in Bundoora.
