Swimmers took to the pool last week in Whittlesea.

The Whittlesea Swim Centre reopened for the summer season on Thursday for the first time since COVID-19 began.

The pool is only open for lap swimming, and bookings is essential for the 45 minute sessions.

Whittlesea chief executive Craig Lloyd said they were looking forward to welcoming people back to the sporting facilities.

“It is very exciting to see activity at Whittlesea Swim Centre, which opened on Thursday (29 October) for lap swimming.”

The pool and gym at the Thomastown Recreation and Aquatic Centre could open early next week.

In Hume, both Craigieburn and Broadmeadows pools are set to open on November 9. Sunbury outdoor pool is already open.

The news isn’t as clear for FunFields theme and waterpark which remains closed for the time being.

FunFields operations general manager Sam Holdich said they were still waiting for more information.

“We are currently waiting on our industry-specific opening guide to be updated to clarify for certain when we are able to operate,” he said.

“In the meantime we are working closely with industry partners to open consistently across the sector.

“We are looking forward to opening the doors very soon.”
