Police are appealing for information following an attempted aggravated carjacking in Thomastown on Monday.
Investigators were told a female was approached by a man at a carwash on High Street about noon.
It is believed the man spoke to the woman about her car before producing a small knife and demanding her keys.
The victim, who wasn’t physically injured during the incident, started to panic before the offender fled the scene empty-handed.
The man is perceived to be Islander/Maori in appearance, with a medium build and short black hair.
He was wearing black clothing, white Nike runners and carrying a distinctive multi-coloured backpack and riding a black mountain bike.
Police have released CCTV and images of a man they believe can assist with their enquiries.
