Whittlesea residents are being warned about a telephone scammer who is saying they’re a police officer from the Mill Park police station.

Polic recently took to the Whittlesea EyeWatch Facebook page to warm residents about the scammer.

They have asked people to pass on the message to anyone who is vulnerable to being scammed.

The “supposed” police officer tells call recipients that they have an outstanding warrant or fine that must be paid. If they don’t pay, the scammer says, they will be arrested.

The number displayed on the caller identification is that of the Mill Park police station.

The calls though are not from Victoria Police or any other law enforcement agency.

Residents are asked to check the authenticity of the phone call, by asking for proof of identity like the police officer’s registered number.

Residents are then asked to call back the police station and confirm that the call didn’t come from them.

Anyone who has lost money as a result of this type of scam, is asked to report the matter to police.
