Police investigating reports of offensive graffiti at Jack Roper Reserve, Broadmeadows

Police are investigating reports of offensive graffiti at a Broadmeadows park.

In a statement on the Eyewatch – Hume Police Service Area Facebook page, police said they had received reports about offensive graffiti on equipment at Jack Roper Reserve..

“Every Victorian has the right to feel safe and secure in the community and Victoria Police will not tolerate any attempts to incite hatred or violence,” the statement said.

Hume mayor Joseph Haweil said the council is “extremely disappointed” to see the expression of hate-crime in Hume.

“Anti-Semitism is one of the most repugnant forms of bigotry,” Cr Haweil said.

“I condemn in the strongest terms possible anybody engaged in sharing symbols associated with the murder of millions of Jews in the Second World War.

“This behaviour is illegal and offensive.

“Council officers have removed the graffiti and stickers and will work with police to ensure offenders are caught.”

Cr Haweil said residents who witness anyone defacing Council or other property should contact local police, or Hume City Council on 9205 2200, or report the incident on the Hume City Council website.

Anyone with any information, including about anti-Semitic graffiti, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
