Close to 50 people allegedly associated with hoon activity across Melbourne’s north-west were ordered by police to present their cars for roadworthy inspections on Sunday, February 12.
Achilles Taskforce acting Senior Sergeant Sean Foley said 31 people issued with notices presented their vehicles for inspection at Roxburgh Park.
Police issued 17 defect notices, including for mechanical faults, engine modifications, window tinting and tyre issues.
“Every defect notice issued will require owners to have these defects in their vehicles either repaired or replaced. Once they have fixed the defect, the drivers need to present their vehicles to VicRoads for clearance. If the owner fails to obtain a clearance within four weeks, the registration of the vehicle may be suspended,” acting Senior Sergeant Foley said.
Six fines were issued and one person was charged with driving while suspended, police said.
The Environment Protection Authority issued three fines for vehicles exceeding noise limits, and the Sheriff’s Office identified over $120,000 worth of outstanding warrants.
