Police are on the hunt for a person who shot a woman on Meadow Heights on Thursday evening.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed there was a “firearms incident” in Ellam Court in Meadow Heights just before 5.30pm.
They are still searching for the offender.
Neighbours reported on social media that a police helicopter had been hovering low over the area.
A woman in her 30s suffered lower body injuries and has been taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.
Detectives from the Hume Crime Investigation Unit are at the scene.
