A police operation focusing on youth crime in Melbourne suburbs, including Whittlesea, has revealed details about vehicles stolen in metropolitan Melbourne during an aggravated burglary.

This operation as part of Operation Trinity, which was launched in 2023 covered the 21 municipalities in Melbourne, with Whittlesea one of them, is a special around the clock operation aimed at combating youth crime.

This operation covers most of the eastern and south eastern suburbs and is focused on cutting the rate of aggravated burglaries.

The operation found 1420 cars and motorbikes stolen during an aggravated burglary in 2023 in Trinity areas.

Of those cars stolen, 163 or 11.5 per cent were stolen in Whittlesea, Banyule, Darebin and Nillumbik.

Boroondara, Manningham, Monash and Whitehorse led the way with 438 or 30.8 per cent of the cars stolen from those four areas.

Nearly 95 per cent of the cars stolen were recovered, with just 83 not recovered.

Of the cars recovered, 105 or 7.9 per cent were found in Banyule, Darebin, Nillumbik or Whittlesea.

Police found 57 of the cars of 4.3 per cent in Hume, Moonee Valley or Moreland.

BMWs were the most stolen car during the operation with 184 of the cars stolen of that brand.
