Police dog Toby tracked down two alleged offenders this morning after attempting to flee with a tradesperson’s tools in Doreen.

According to police, a man woke to noises out the front of his house on Overland Drive about 1.50am.

When he went to check what was happening the man found two men attempting to break into his utility and steal tools.

The two men fled and the car’s owner gave chase before stopping to pick up a set of keys believed to be dropped by the pair.

The victim called police and Toby and his handler were among those who responded.

Toby made his way to bushes in parkland where two men were found.

While searching the area, Toby also recovered some of the victim’s tools including power drills, handheld saws and batteries.

Police said what is believed to be a homemade taser and multiple suspected stolen items were found in a nearby car.

Epping police are investigating.

A 22-year-old Mickleham man and a 22-year-old Craigieburn are assisting police with inquiries.
