The roundabout at Bridge Inn and Plenty roads will be replaced with traffic lights as part of the second stage of the Plenty Road upgrade.

The state government has awarded the contract for the second stage of works, which will add extra lanes to Plenty Road between Bush Boulevard and Bridge Inn Road.

The road will be widened from four lanes to six between Bush and Riverdale boulevards and from two to four lanes between Riverdale Boulevard to Bridge Inn Road.

Construction will start later this year and is expected to be completed by mid-2021.

Yan Yean MP Danielle Green said Plenty Road linked Doreen, Mernda and Whittlesea to Melbourne and was used by about 35,000 motorists daily.

“Getting on with upgrading Plenty Road means faster, smoother and safer journeys for everyone living in Melbourne’s northern suburbs,” she
said.

Mill Park MP Lily D’Ambrosio said stage one of the upgrade was well under way.

“The first stage of the Plenty Road upgrade is nearing completion and, along with stage two, will bring major relief to the tens of thousands of motorists,” she said.
