Plenty Road re-opened following fatal crash

UPDATE: Plenty Road, Mill Park is now open in both directions between McKimmies Road and Childs Road following an earlier closure due to an overnight collision.

Some residual delays remain however these are expected to ease quickly.

EARLIER: A section of Plenty Road has been closed following a fatal crash in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Emergency services responded to reports that an Audi sedan was travelling north on Plenty Road, Bundoora, when it lost control and struck a pole on the south bound side about 4.10am.

The sole occupant, a yet to be identified man, died at the scene.

Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and investigations are ongoing.

The Department of Transport said Plenty Road is closed in both directions between McKimmies Road and Mayfield Drive.

Police are directing traffic.

The department said drivers heading towards the city should exit Plenty Road at Childs Road or further back, using Dalton Road or Yan Yean Road as alternatives, allowing extra time through the area.

Signalling engineers are adjusting traffic lights to help minimise delays, according to the department.
