Lalor’s Links Community Garden is looking greener after more than 200 trees and plants were added to the garden to mark World Environment Day.

Pupils from Lalor Primary School joined garden members, Whittlesea councillors, Scullin MP Andrew Giles, Thomastown MP Bronwyn Halfpenny and Consul General of India in Melbourne Rakesh Malhotra for the inaugural planting day.

Links Community Garden co-ordinator Matthew Odgers said the community garden decided to host a World Environment Day event after Mr Malhotra inquired about planting trees in the garden.

He said 234 native and non-native trees, plants, shrubs and grasses were planted in the Station Street garden, including bush food varieties.
