Plan your travel this summer

Motorists in the western suburbs are being urged to plan ahead as roadworks ramp up over the summer.

As part of Victoria’s Big Build, work on the West Gate Tunnel Project is progressing to widen the West Gate Freeway from eight to 12 lanes, while the Department of Transport’s annual maintenance works will also take place on the West Gate Bridge.

Works continue to remove dangerous and congested level crossings, while road upgrades are in progress on the M80 Ring Road.

These works will cause delays on key roads and surrounding areas. Be sure to plan ahead, allow extra time or take an alternative route if possible.

Three city-bound lanes on the West Gate Bridge will be closed from 9pm on Thursday, December 29 until 6am on Monday, January 4.

The West Gate Freeway will be closed in one or both directions between Millers Road and Williamstown Road at times between early January and early April, while the Williamstown Road outbound entry ramp to the West Gate Freeway will be closed from 9pm, Monday, January 9 until 5am, Monday, April 7 as part of West Gate Tunnel works.

The West Gate Freeway outbound exit ramp to Millers Road, Brooklyn, will be closed from 9pm, Monday, January 6 until 5am, Monday, February 17, while the freeway exit ramp to Grieve Parade will be closed during the same period.

The M80 Ring Road will be closed in both directions overnight between Boundary Road and the West Gate Freeway between 10pm, Saturday, January 18 and 7am, Sunday, January 19; 10pm, Saturday, February 8 and 7am, Sunday, February 9; and 10pm Saturday, February 5 to 5am, Monday, February 17.

In Diggers Rest, Watsons Road will be closed until late 2025 for level crossing removal works.
