More than 1800 Whittlesea pets are now officially unregistered with renewals now two months overdue. Whittlesea council is urging pet owners to pay their registration renewal fees and avoid on-the-spot fines, potential legal proceedings and court-imposed penalties.
The council requires dog and cat owners to register their animals from three months of age.
The fee for the 2015-16 animal registration was due on April 10 and owners who have yet to pay should already have received a reminder. Now a friendly reminder call from the council will ask them to confirm they still have their pets.
Whittlesea mayor Ricky Kirkham (pictured with pooch Teddy) says registering dogs and cats greatly improves their chances of being returned if they are lost. “If you’ve forgotten to renew your pet’s registration or misplaced your renewal notice, it’s not too late to pay,” he said.
