Pedestrian struck in Meadow Heights

Police are investigating after a pedestrian was critically injured in Meadow Heights.

Police have been told the woman was crossing Pascoe Vale Road, near Shankland Boulevard, when she was struck by a car about 7.15am on Friday, January 3.

The 51-year-old Meadow Heights woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 20-year-old driver, also from Meadow Heights, stopped at the scene.

He is now in custody and will be interviewed by detectives.

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and police have cordoned off the area.

It is expected the area will be closed to traffic while detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit process the scene.
