Pedestrian crossings for Craigieburn Road

Following public outcry new temporary pedestrian crossings will be installed on Craigieburn Road to ensure the safety of people using the Craigieburn Sports Stadium.

Craigieburn Road will be closed to all traffic in both directions between Hanson and Bridgewater roads from Friday, June 23 to Saturday, August 19.

Two signalised pedestrian crossings nearby to the sports stadium will be added, one adjacent to Benston Street, and another at the Bridgewater Road intersection.

Additional pedestrian crossings will also be open at both the Hanson Road and Bridgewater Road intersections to allow access to the stadium.

However, parking access to the stadium still remains an issue for locals. With the road closures meaning those wanting to use the facility would have to walk hundreds of metres, leaving disabled and elderly people in the lurch.

“We’ll be working as part of a seven-week major construction period to fast-track the construction of new lanes in each direction and avoid longer term disruptions to the surrounding businesses and the community,” Major Road Projects program director Dipal Sorathia said.
