Two men from Melbourne’s northern suburbs have been arrested after allegedly trying to sneak into South Australia.

South Australian Police said the men, from Craigieburn and Wollert, drove through a border checkpoint on the Dukes Highway at Wolseley by allegedly hiding their Victorian-registered Mazda SUV between two trucks just after 9.30pm yesterday.

The pair then allegedly drove off towards Keith.

Police spotted the SUV just before 1am on the South Eastern Freeway at Mount Barker and arrested the men.

The driver, a 44-year-old Craigieburn man, and his passenger, a 35-year-old Wollert man, were considered to be non-essential travellers as neither had pre-approval to enter South Australia, police said.

The men were charged with failing to comply with a direction.

They were refused bail and will appear at the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
