Northern Health has celebrated its social workers for World Social Work Day to highlight the work they do for the community.
Social workers enjoyed a picnic and came together to reflect on their work and achievements.
This year’s theme was ‘Co-building a New Eco-Social World: Leaving No One Behind’ which allied health associate director Penelope Vye says it’s a reminder to protect our abilities, gender and faiths in order to feel safe.
“The pandemic has created financial, emotional and social challenges which has meant increasingly complex work for social workers and increased demand on resources,” Ms Vye said.
There are over 40 social workers at Northern Health, who have dealt with 27,000 patients this past year.
“Over the past year, social workers have continued to innovate work such as advocating for NDIS services for people with disabilities, in COVID Monitoring as COVID Navigators and in the COVID Psycho-Social Response Team,” Ms Vye said.
World Social Work Day takes place on the third Tuesday of March every year.
