Northern Diwali returns brighter than ever

Whittlesea is set to shine with colour, culture and community spirit as Northern Diwali – the festival of lights, returns for its eighth year.

Organised by Mission Smile Inc. with the support of Whittlesea council , the much-loved festival transforms the municipality into one of the region’s most vibrant celebrations.

Diwali symbolises the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and the good over evil, and is celebrated all around the world.

The celebration’s roots lie in India, but the festival has grown into a global tradition, embraced in multicultural communities right across Australia and right here in Victoria’s north.

This year’s Diwali promises fun for everyone with a packed line-up of entertainment and activities for all ages, including a live DJ, fireworks, a bustling marketplace with food stalls and traditional sweets, henna tattoo artists, and a multicultural stage bursting with music and dance.

Mission Smile Inc. spokespeople said the team has worked tirelessly to create an event that not only honours Diwali, but also celebrates the diverse cultures of Whittlesea.

“Our goal is to bring people from all walks of life together through the joy and spirit of Diwali.”

“Whether you’re familiar with the festival or experiencing it for the first time, everyone is welcome.”

Families and friends are encouraged to mark their calendars and join the celebration – a night of music, colour and connection, as Whittlesea lights up for Diwali.

Join in on the fun and festivities as Northern Diwali takes Whittlesea’s centre stage at Civic Centre Lawns, 25 Ferres Boulevard, South Morang from 12pm on Saturday, October 18.
