A ‘noisy’ and ‘unsafe’ Craigieburn roundabout will be resurfaced at a cost of $120.000.
At a recent council meeting, Hume councillors voted to remove the buetone-treated thresholds on the roundabout at the intersection of Central Park Avenue, Cascade Terrace and Bellfield Drive following complaints from residents.
The work will be carried out as part of the 2022-23 budget.
Council received five submissions from residents calling for the bluestone treatment to be removed.
Residents said resurfacing the roundabout would allow cars to ride smoothly across the threshold, without causing extra noise.
Cr Jack Medcraft said council “always listens to [residents] and… always supports them”.
“I don’t think I’d like to be sleeping on the corner of that street where the bluestones are,” he said.
“I don’t know how… they got to put them in in the first place.
“Bluestones look good in a garden, not on a road.
“I think for the safety of the residents, and [for a] peaceful night’s sleep, I think we owe it to them.”
The roundabout threshold will be replaced with a standard asphalt surface.
A council report stated the estimated cost of removing and replacing all bluestone treated thresholds with a smooth road surface in Craigieburn would be $3.5 million.
